Nirvana

If you are a big music buff then you definitely know Nirvana and Kurt Cobain. Nirvana was the most popular rock band in the late 80’s to the early 90’s, even after the tragic and very early death of band leader and lead vocalist Kurt Cobain in 1994, their songs continued its success, and actually became more successful since Kurt Cobain’s death was widely discussed and it was highly controversial in the music industry and in the world.

Though Nirvana disbanded, some of its members are still very active in the music industry and Nirvana’s songs continue influencing young people and the new breed of musicians and they will be forever remembered.

R.E.M

R.E.M is the first band who became popular under the umbrella of alternative music. The band, with lead vocalist Michael Stipe was formed in Athens. The band became very popular not because of TV appearances or concerts but through regular touring and the love given to them by college radios. After reaping the fruit of their labor through underground music R.E.M surprised the whole world with their very powerful song “The One I Love”, that is when Warner Bros. made them sign a contract.

R.E.M. was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last 2007 and they are still loved by many solid R.E.M fans all over the world, Losing My Religion and Everybody Hurts and other songs are still widely played worldwide.

Oasis

Oasis managed to stay in the music industry amidst the very competitive world of music with all new artists emerging from all over the world. Music is highly changeable since the people’s taste for songs and musicians vary from time to time, depending on the mood and what’s happening around. Being able to thrive and still produce music is a feat not everybody can do. The Oasis with its lead vocalist Noel Gallagher provides the world of entertainment with alternative music like no other.

This Oasis song “Little by Little” became very controversial but is still supported by millions of Oasis fans worldwide.

Incubus – True Talent

Hailing from California, Incubus is quite known in the alternative music scene because of their songs, “Drive”, “Megalomaniac”, “Anna Molly”, “Love Hurts” and “Morning View”, which both debuted in the number 1 spot. They have released 7 albums including a Greatest Hit, which was accompanied by a US and Canada tour. In 2008, the band decided to take a hiatus but is currently thinking of releasing another album.

Incubus music is greatly influenced by different elements from several genres. But basically, they are an alternative rock band that uses unique instruments such as bongos, sitar, djembe and pipa.

Candle Box Unique Alternative Group

With the many bands claiming to be a part of the alternative music scene, Candle Box stands proud and true. This group has certainly proven their talent with their numerous hits. In addition to their great music, Candle Box is considered to be one of the few bands who understand the meaning of hard work. They never tire when it comes to touring and this paid off when their first self-titled album sold over4 million copies.

Their song “Far Behind” made it to the #18 spot in the US Billboard’s Hot 100 in 1994, #7 in the US Modern Rock List and #4 in the US Mainstream Rock List.

Oasis Remains to be the best Alternative Rock Group

When it comes to alternative music, Oasis is on top of the game. Their songs define a generation of really great music. Their song, “Wonderwall” has been one of my favorites. Too bad the group decided to disband.

As proof of this group’s greatness, they were awarded “Best Brit Album of 30 Years” in the recently concluded 2010 Brit Awards. Clearly, their music will go down to be among the greatest in the industry.

Say No More – Will Leave You Speechless

If you are looking for a fresh and original alternative music, you should check out these songs from Say No More. It is not surprising why this band became stars almost overnight.

This version of “Kiss Me” by New Found Glory, on the other hand, is also quite fantastic.
